Plum Spun Inc. · d/b/a Aclara Advanced Materials

Advanced filtration media, proven at manufacturing scale.

Aclara develops electrospun nanofiber media with photoreactive chemistry embedded in the fiber itself. The platform is exclusively licensed worldwide from George Washington University and UC Riverside, protected by an issued U.S. patent, and has been produced at industrial scale.

The platform

What Aclara has built.

The media

Electrospun nanofiber media

Sub-micron polymer fibers spun into a dense, tortuous mat: mechanical filtration with the breathability of a much lighter material, plus a photoreactive chemistry built into the fiber during spinning.

The manufacturing

Manufactured at scale

A full industrial production run in 2022 proved the process at roll-to-roll scale. A U.S. manufacturing path (media production and finished-mask manufacturing) is now in qualification.

The IP

Patents, license, and a mapped regulatory pathway

An issued U.S. patent, allowed in Canada, pending in the EU and UK; an exclusive worldwide license from two research universities; and a Class II 510(k) pathway with two completed Q-Submissions.

Scientific provenance

Developed in university laboratories.

The underlying technology was invented at the George Washington University and UC Riverside, sponsored in part by an NSF rapid-response grant, and published in Environmental Science & Technology (American Chemical Society, 2022). The science team continues to advance the program in GWU’s high-containment laboratories.

For licensing partners and acquirers

A de-risked platform.

The science is published. The patents are issued and the license is exclusive. The material has been made at scale and the products have been sold through a national distributor. An FDA submission is in preparation. Explore what Aclara can bring to your organization.
